The University of Gdańsk is a dynamically developing institution of higher education, and one that combines respect for tradition with a commitment to the new. We offer a very wide range of academic subjects, and an equally wide range of subjects that lead to professional qualifications in demand on the job market. An increasingly large proportion of students pursue their studies in state-of-the-art facilities on the University's Baltic Campus, which is one of the largest university complexes in northern Poland.

11 Faculties, with almost 30,000 undergraduate students, doctoral students and postgraduates, who are taught by 1700 academic staff, of the University of Gdańsk are located in the Three Cities of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, the part of the Polish Coast, and the most beautiful place in Poland.

The Oliwa Campus in Gdańsk consists of the following sites:

- Rector’s Office

- Faculties of Biology, Chemistry, History, Law and Administration, Languages, Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Biotechnology, new Neo-philology building, Faculty of Social Sciences and Institute of Geography

- Most up-to-date and the largest academic library in northern Poland

- 4 residence halls in close proximity to the campus

- Plans for the construction of: Institute of Informatics, University Sports and Recreation Center

The Gdynia Campus consists of:

- The stylish building of the Institute of Oceanography (recognized by the Chairman of Gdynia City Council as the best investment in the ‘Time for Gdynia’ competition)

The Sopot Campus consists of:

- The new Teaching and Conference Center

- The Faculty of Management with the new Teaching and Conference Center

- The Faculty of Economics.

The University of Gdańsk provides education in 74 courses of study, 221 specializations, 21 doctoral courses, 107 post-graduate courses, 9 foreign language courses for students offered by i.a. Foreign Languages Department: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Chinese. Foreign students can study at the University of Gdańsk either in Polish or English language. Programs for Students: ERASMUS ─ International Student Exchange Program; MOST Program ─ National Exchange Program; Training and internships in institutions and businesses all over Poland and abroad students.

The University of Gdańsk offers the following fields of study conducted entirely in English: International Business, European Business Administration, Mathematics, Physics, Medical Physics and Doctoral studies (PhD): English Language part-time doctoral studies in Economics, Full-time: Life Sciences and Mathematics Interdisciplinary Studies (LiSMIDoS), Interdyscyplinary Doctoral Studies in Mathematical Modeling.

The University of Gdańsk cooperates with universities, tertiary colleges and scientific and research institutions in almost every country around the world. Participation in the European and international programmes allows for the expansion of the University of Gdańsk and has an impact on its research and teaching base. From 2002 to the end of 2015 the University of Gdańsk participated in over 230 European and international projects.

The University of Gdańsk has a large experience in the implementation of projects under the Framework Programmes – 65 projects. Among the greatest successes there are three European centres of excellence in the 5th Framework Programme: Research and Education Centre for Urban Socio-Economic Development (RECOURSE), Centre of Excellence for Baltic Development, Education and Research (BALTDER), Centre of Excellence in Bio-safety and Molecular Biomedicine (BioMoBil); the networks of excellence in the 6th Framework Programme: Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning (MARBEF), European Vigilance Network for the Management of Antiviral Drug Resistance (VIRGIL); and the large-scale projects in the 7thFramework Programme: Exploring Marine Resources for Bioactive Compounds: From Discovery to Sustainable Production and Industrial Applications (MAREX) and Quantum Interfaces, Sensors and Communication based on Entanglement (Q-ESSENCE), Quantum resOurces: conceptuaLs and APplicationS (QOLAPS), CENTRE OF MOLECULAR BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR HEALTHY LIFE Biotech solutions bringing health to living organisms and environment supported by mass spec-focused research platform (MOBI4Health).

The University of Gdańsk has already achieved its successes in the Horizon 2020 program (successor to the Seventh Framework Program). Two projects are currently at the stage of signing of agreements with the European Commission. The first project, "Electrification of public transport in cities" (ELIPTIC), will be implemented in the Faculty of Economics. The Faculty of Chemistry will be involved in the second project, "Development and implementation of Grouping and Safe-by-Design approaches within regulatory Framework" (NanoREG II).

The membership of Poland in the European Union has opened up some new possibilities for Polish science and scholarship in the area of financing activities, including the exploitation of structural funds, such as the European Social Fund, the European Regional Development Fund and community initiatives. During the 2007-2013 programme period the University of Gdańsk is implementing a total of 63 projects within the framework of the Operational Programmes.

Scientists from the University of Gdańsk also obtain other European and international grants for example within the framework of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, LIFE+, the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Programme, the European Territorial Cooperation and the Lifelong Learning Programme.

One of the assets of the University of Gdańsk is its relationship with the sea. The reputation of the University in marine matters is built on its excellent research stations with their international reputations: the Hel Marine Station, the Bird Migration Research Station and the Biology Station. The marine image of the university is also enhanced by its fields of study, specialisations and scientific research connected with the sea and with the Baltic coast in particular.

Among the plans for the development of the University of Gdańsk in the years 2011-2020 is the extension of the Baltic Campus of the University of Gdańsk, located in Gdańsk-Oliwa. The development of the Baltic Campus offers a chance to create in Pomerania one of the strongest academic and scientific centres in the Baltic Region.
